Work placement provides students with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge gained during classroom and simulated training in a real-world care environment under supervision. Work placement is scheduled at the end of term 2 and term 4, for three (3) consecutive weeks, across four terms in total, allowing students to progressively develop their competence while reinforcing theory and simulation activities. Each placement block consists of 60 hours (20 hours each week), resulting in a minimum of 120 hours across the course.

During placement, students will engage in a variety of workplace tasks aligned with unit requirements, including providing personal care and support to clients, assisting with mobility and daily activities, promoting independence, supporting health and wellbeing, communicating effectively with clients and colleagues, maintaining safe work practices, and documenting care according to workplace procedures. Workplace supervisors and trainers will provide feedback and confirm that students demonstrate competency in line with organisational policies, duty of care, and unit performance criteria.

To ensure the quality of training and assessment, a trainer/assessor will visit students once during each placement block. The trainer visit provides the opportunity to:

Observe students directly in the workplace,

Verify workplace tasks and performance evidence,

Conduct assessment observations,

Liaise with workplace supervisors, and

Provide guidance, support, and feedback to students.

This structured approach, combined with regular trainer visits, ensures students gain meaningful, hands-on experience while meeting the practical evidence requirements of the qualification and maintaining strong links between the RTO, the student, and the host organization.
